Addictive Behavior Counseling Services

An Alternative to Typical Substance Abuse Counseling Programs

I am providing creative and flexible outpatient addictive behavioral counseling (ABC) and educational services based on a sensible and practical cognitive-behavioral approach.

My services include substance abuse assessments, consultations, individual counseling, group psycho-educational sessions, family counseling, and drug screening.

SMART Recovery® Training (SRT) is my professionally delivered, fee-for-service addictive behavior counseling model designed to assist clients in learning to apply the tools of the SMART Recovery® (SR) self-help program to “gain independence from addictive behavior.”

Like SMART Recovery®, my SRT approach is abstinence based and focuses on addressing the SR  “four point program.”

  1. Maintaining motivation to change
  2. Coping with urges and cravings
  3. Developing life coping skills
  4. Developing a balanced life style

SRT is an evidence based, flexible, and creative approach characterized by integrating the following key components:

  • The Stages of Change Model
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Relapse Prevention (RP)
  • Humanistic /Existential Psychology

My ABC&SRT services are individually based . I am focusing on working with clients in individual sessions and in an optional weekly SRT group session of no more than 10 clients. Clients may also participate in the free SMART Recovery® meetings available in the community and access the free SMART Online (SOL) support system “24/7.” While I do not use the 12-Steps as a treatment modality, I am open to and supportive of clients who may want to attend 12-Step meetings as well.

All services are offered by appointment. Individual sessions are offered on weekdays (some early evening hours or Saturdays may be available). Psycho-educational group sessions are offered on weekday evenings and may be offered during the day if/when there is sufficient demand.

GETTING STARTED

Typically, one would start the process by making an appointment for an assessment or an initial consult.

An assessment is indicated when a thorough clinical evaluation and recommendation is desired. A consult may be appropriate if a client has had a recent assessment at another agency and/or wants to discuss his/her situation and concerns about how my services may be helpful.

For appointments, referrals, or questions; please call me at 919.274.8001 or email me at, AndyOrrABC@gmail.com
